Matthew Spalding joined IMCORP in 2015 as Vice President of Business Development and was promoted to Vice President of Sales & Marketing on January 1, 2017. Mr. Spalding was promoted to President of IMCORP on January 1, 2018. Mr. Spalding was named Chief Operating Officer (COO), in addition to his current title of President on August 1, 2019.
Mr. Spalding started his career at El Paso Electric in 1987 as a Distribution Standards Engineer. In 1990 he moved to the Raychem Corporation, where his primary responsibilities included: design, development, failure analysis and testing of cable accessories and insulation systems. He was also called to serve as an expert witness related to cable accessories and electrical device analysis.
Throughout his 22 year career with Tyco and Raychem, Mr. Spalding held positions in sales, Global Product Management and Business Development, Research and Development and Senior Management. In these positions, he worked closely with customers to train installers, determine solutions to improve customer system performance, resolve quality and installation issues. He also worked with customers to develop new products and ensure customer satisfaction. Additionally, he served as the company representative for various standard committees ANSI C.29, IEEE-48 & IEEE 404 and as NEETRAC Board Member.
In 2012, Mr. Spalding accepted the High Voltage Cable Systems Business Development Manager position at the ABB Huntersville site. In this position, Mr. Spalding successfully negotiated the first HV project for the Huntersville plant and developed two new conductor designs, improving the electrical performance and economics of EHV cables (6000 kcmil aluminum & hybrid copper/aluminum conductors).
Mr. Spalding has developed power system products such as medium & high voltage insulators, substation animal mitigation devices, power connectors, HV cable designs and cable accessories and he holds 14 patents related to these devices.
Mr. Spalding holds a BSEE degree from New Mexico State University and completed Master’s level studies in Engineering-Economic Systems (MSIE) at Stanford University.
